It all started 3 years ago as I faced the end of one life- probing for the meaning of the next. I had been married for 15 years, and lived everywhere, the West Coast, the Southwest, the Rockies, then Alaska, Washington, and where I sat at the time in Colorado. The life I knew was ending - the marriage, the career, shuffling to see if was ever going to be really right- the holding pattern that broke. Some higher part of myself spoke to me, I saw myself 5 years in the future, speaking to a large audience in a distant country, with a book of mine in the background. The vision for my new life woke me to change the fabric of my being, to reach for my highest aspirations- to live the dream I had carried since I was a teenager of sharing a message with millions of people around the world as a speaker and author. I knew the road ahead would be difficult- unbearable at times. In a 2-year period, I got divorced, moved states 3 times, changed my career, and lost a mother figure to cancer, all while trying to start a new life in a new state with my toddler during the COVID shutdowns. The vision for my new life had to be bigger than the pain of the moment- the uncertainty. As I sat in a dark empty apartment, I thought about my dream as an influencer, about the two subjects that filled my life: leadership and entrepreneurialism. I reviewed the course of my life to that point as an entrepreneur, I had to decide which priorities would remain in the past and which would take front and center going forward. I thought about my own “shift-” what would make my big dream of contributing to the stream of leadership and entrepreneurialism happen? Gary Keller’s quintessential question entered my mind: What's the One Thing I can do / such that by doing it / everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”

What is the one impact I could make on others to make the biggest difference as an entrepreneur? It was time for introspection, to ask the right questions and pay attention to the answers and write down and evaluate any insight that arose. I thought about my dream of being a writer and how it would help me uncover what I wanted to share and help me communicate effectively with who I wanted to share it with. This moment decided the entire course of my present life and career. I changed my last name on the spot to “Powers” because it sounded good and represented a moment when I stepped into my real personal power for the first time. I wrote my first blog entry that day with the intention of filling the world with more inspired leadership by combining the knowledge from my 20-year career as a serial entrepreneur, a director/ trainer and a business coach in leadership, business, and marketing, with vision as the focus of my entrepreneurial journey and message.

And here I am today, having the big moments of insight, and simple pleasures of being part of great conversations about what matters most with an ever-widening group of people looking to make a positive impact through their leadership. Thank you for joining my journey, buckle up- we’re on an exciting ride.
